Spain Etch Their Name in History with Men’s and Women’s World Cup Double

Spain have written a new chapter in football history by becoming the first nation to simultaneously hold the FIFA Men’s World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup titles.

The milestone was achieved after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, adding the men’s crown to the women’s title they secured in 2023.

FIFA confirmed the record on its official X account, noting that Spain is the first country to possess both World Cup trophies at the same time.

Spain’s women’s national team claimed its first FIFA Women’s World Cup title in 2023 with a 1-0 victory over England in the final, courtesy of Olga Carmona’s decisive strike.

Sunday’s triumph also saw Spain capture its second men’s World Cup title, having previously won the tournament in South Africa in 2010.

By lifting the 2026 World Cup while still reigning as women’s world champions, Spain achieved a feat unmatched since the establishment of FIFA’s men’s and women’s global tournaments.

The accomplishment further highlights Spain’s dominance on the international stage. In addition to their World Cup successes, the men’s team won the UEFA European Championship in 2024, while the women’s side has continued to establish itself among the elite teams in world football since its maiden World Cup triumph.
