Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare is set to join Dutch giants Ajax on an initial loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with a non-mandatory €22 million buy option included in the agreement if triggered.
The 25-year-old striker joined Wolves for £26 million last summer and made 33 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and providing three assists. However, the season proved disappointing as Wolves suffered relegation.
According to Goal.com, Wolves’ new manager, César Peixoto, informed Arokodare that he was no longer welcome with the first team. Despite the decision, the Nigerian reportedly turned up at the club’s Compton Park training ground.
A conflict is said to have broken out at the training complex, prompting Wolves to call off the day’s training session. Reports further claim that security personnel were brought in the following day to prevent Arokodare from returning to the facility uninvited.
Tolu Arokodare becomes Ajax’s second official signing of the season after Marc-André ter Stegen. The Nigerian international is expected to strengthen Ajax’s attacking options following the departures of Brian Brobbey and Chuba Akpom.
