After weeks of speculation surrounding his future, Sandro Tonali has completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur after signing for the club in a record-breaking deal worth £100 million (£92.5 million guaranteed plus £7.5 million in add-ons).

The transfer makes Tonali the most expensive signing in Tottenham Hotspur’s history. It also makes him the most expensive Italian player ever, according to Fabrizio Romano, and the second most expensive player ever sold by Newcastle United, behind Alexander Isak’s £125 million move to Liverpool.

Tonali’s arrival marks the second time Tottenham have broken their transfer record during the current summer transfer window, having previously signed Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85 million.

The Italian midfielder becomes Tottenham’s sixth official signing of the season, following the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52 million, Marcos Senesi on a free transfer from Bournemouth, Andy Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool, Martin Dubravka on a free transfer, and Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85 million.
