Nollywood actor Charles Okocha claimed victory over street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, after the singer was disqualified in their celebrity boxing rematch on Friday at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The contest, tagged Unfinished Business, ended before the opening round was completed after Portable left the ring during a chaotic stoppage, prompting officials to award the fight to Okocha by disqualification.
The rematch was organised following their first meeting, which Okocha had maintained was wrongly awarded to Portable.
Portable looked to be in control during the early exchanges before the fight turned into a wrestling-style tussle, forcing the referee to struggle to separate both fighters. The bell was then sounded to end the round as security personnel and bodyguards stepped in to restore order.
Portable walked out of the ring before the contest could resume, drawing boos from spectators, including fans seated in the VIP section. Although he later returned after being persuaded by officials, he was subsequently disqualified, handing victory to Okocha.
Before the bout, Portable, while holding his son backstage, said, “I am not happy, but I want God to make me happy and my family.”
The result reversed the outcome of their first encounter, which Portable won after a decision Okocha had disputed. It also came after the singer had expressed confidence at the final weigh-in that he remained the stronger fighter.
