Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to resume his professional football career with immediate effect after the four-year ban imposed on him by the Football Association was rescinded, bringing an end to one of the most high-profile anti-doping cases in recent years.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Friday , July 31, 2026, that the Ukrainian international will travel to Hong Kong to rejoin Chelsea’s pre-season tour immediately following the resolution of the case.

Mudryk had been provisionally suspended since December 2024 after testing positive for the banned substance meldonium. The Football Association subsequently handed the 25-year-old a four-year ban in April 2026 before he appealed the decision.

Following the conclusion of the legal proceedings, Mudryk has now been officially cleared to play and is expected to begin his reintegration into the Chelsea squad.

In an official statement released by Chelsea, the club expressed its delight at the player’s return and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting him.

“We know how much this opportunity to return means to him. Our focus now is on supporting Misha’s reintegration into the squad and helping him resume his career. Everyone at the Club now looks forward to helping Misha return to full fitness, back into the squad and back onto the pitch,” Chelsea said.

Mudryk also released an emotional statement after learning that the ban had been rescinded.

“After a long battle, the four-year ban that was imposed on me has been rescinded and I am free to resume my career with immediate effect,” he said.

“I am grateful that this process has reached a conclusion, that I have been cleared to return to football and that I can now look ahead to my future.

“This has been the most difficult period of my career.

“As I have always maintained from the outset of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substance. My commitment to competing fairly and representing my club and country with professionalism and integrity has always been important to me.

“I would like to thank my family and friends for their support and belief throughout this period.

“I also want to express my deep gratitude to everyone at Chelsea FC, my teammates and the Chelsea supporters who have been with me throughout.

“I would also like to thank my legal team and others who assisted for their tireless work on my case.

“My focus now is on returning to football, working hard every day, and making a positive contribution on the pitch.

“Thank you to everyone who continued to believe in me. I look forward to the next chapter of my career.”

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 in a deal worth up to £88.5 million. He was regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young attacking talents before his career was temporarily halted by the doping case.

The winger’s provisional suspension in December 2024 came as a major shock to both Chelsea and Ukrainian football, with the player consistently maintaining his innocence throughout the investigation and subsequent appeal process.

Chelsea stood by the player during the lengthy legal battle and continued to offer support behind the scenes while he remained unavailable for selection.

Mudryk’s return comes at a crucial time for Chelsea as the club prepares for the 2026/27 season. He is expected to undergo fitness assessments after spending nearly 20 months away from competitive football before gradually returning to first-team action.

The Ukrainian international will now have the opportunity to rebuild his career at Stamford Bridge and make up for lost time after finally bringing an end to a difficult chapter both on and off the pitch.
