Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo has completed a move to the Miami Heat from the Milwaukee Bucks in one of the biggest trades of the NBA off-season.
The deal sees Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis join the Heat, while Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis move to the Bucks.
Antetokounmpo, who was selected by Milwaukee in the 2013 NBA Draft, spent his entire NBA career with the franchise before the move. During his time with the Bucks, he guided the team to the 2021 NBA championship and established himself as one of the league’s most dominant players.
The 31-year-old’s future with Milwaukee had been the subject of speculation after he criticised the club’s management last season for not clearing him to play following a left knee hyperextension. The Boston Celtics had also been linked with the Greek international before the Heat secured his signature.
Reacting to the transfer, Heat president Pat Riley described it as “one of the great trades” in the franchise’s history.
Speaking in April after the Bucks failed to reach the play-offs, Antetokounmpo said: “I feel like sometimes people just don’t listen.
“They listen to the sources. The main source is me. It is what it is.”
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have confirmed the acquisition of Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics, alongside the signing of free-agent guard Anfernee Simons.
The 76ers completed the trade by sending veteran forward Paul George, two first-round draft picks and two second-round draft picks to Boston in exchange for Brown.
