Nigeria’s men’s rugby sevens team, the Stallions, will battle for a place on the international stage when they compete in the World Rugby SVNS 3 Qualifiers in Uganda from September 26 to 27, 2026.
The Nigerian side will face hosts Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Tunisia, Morocco and Senegal in the eight-team qualifying tournament, with the winner securing qualification for the 2027 World Rugby SVNS 3 competition.
The tournament was initially scheduled as a 12-team men’s sevens competition in Mauritius but was postponed following an Ebola outbreak. Uganda was subsequently selected to host the revised eight-team qualifying tournament.
According to the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) media contact, Tolu Oguntimehin, the competition will also provide Nigeria with an opportunity to improve its position in African rugby.
The winner will be ranked third in Africa, while the team finishing last will occupy the eighth
