AS Roma striker and Ukraine international Artem Dovbyk has agreed to join Italian side Bologna on a long-term loan deal until 2027, with the player’s medical scheduled to take place today.

The move comes as part of a swap-style arrangement between Bologna and AS Roma, with Santiago Castro joining the Giallorossi from Bologna in a €35 million deal that also includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

The Ukrainian forward made 18 appearances in all competitions for Roma last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist. In Serie A, he featured in 14 matches but started only three, coming off the bench in the other 11 and playing just 386 minutes in the league campaign, according to Opta.

The figures represent a significant decline from his debut season at Roma, when he played 32 Serie A matches, scoring 12 goals and registering two assists.

Dovbyk’s move to Bologna offers him the opportunity for a fresh start after a difficult campaign in the Italian capital. The 2023/24 La Liga Golden Boot winner is expected to replace Santiago Castro as Bologna’s first-choice striker.

He becomes Bologna’s third signing of the transfer window after the arrivals of Rahim Alhassane from Real Oviedo and Mikel Amondarain.
