Nigeria has named an 18-member team for the 15th African Archery Championships, which will take place in Oran, Algeria, from July 21 to 26.
The delegation will compete in the compound, recurve and barebow events in both the men’s and women’s categories. The team is led by Nigeria Archery Federation President Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, alongside Vice President Augustine Obiefuna Chigbolu and coach Aliyu Garga.
The federation described the squad as Nigeria’s largest and most balanced team for a continental championship.
Nigeria heads into the competition with high expectations after winning medals at the African Championships in Pretoria in 2022 and Nabeul, Tunisia, in 2023. The country also claimed gold medals at the African Championships and Africa’s first Run Archery Tournament in Abidjan in 2025.
Nigeria Archery Federation Director of Marketing Emmanuel Oyeleke called on corporate organisations to support the team, saying more investment would help the sport continue its growth in the country.
The championships will begin with official practice and equipment inspection on July 21, followed by qualification rounds on July 22. Individual elimination matches are scheduled for July 23, while team and mixed team events will hold on July 24. The competition will conclude with the finals and medal ceremonies on July 25 and 26.
